SCHOOL SERVED
SCOTSTOUN PRIMARY SCHOOL
At MACS Scotstoun, we are a term time only project based within the old gym (basement) of Scotstoun Primary School. We are a registered service for 88 children daily Monday to Friday from 3pm to 6pm. At present our room within the school is registered for 56 children daily however we have access to Scotstoun Parish Church from 3pm to 5pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday which we use for our young children from primary one and two on these days.
Old Gym Playroom- Monday to Friday term time (3pm-6pm)
Daily when the children are in the old gym playroom they have access to a range of holistic activities which they plan for with the staff through their own interests and the skills for the staff here at MACS. The activities range from physical, arts and crafts, team building/challenge and baking activities. The children enjoy physical play and cooking activities which we offer a weekly team building cooking activity (Ready Steady Cook) and hope to extend this further by providing life skills through cooking, budgeting and food planning.
We use full use of the outdoor space in the school grounds from the playground to pitch area all year round and if weather is unsuitable we have use of the gym hall from 4:00pm daily. We aim to use local facilities as much as possible for the older children from swimming to the library and even the local Victoria Park. Children 8 and over who are confident swimmers access the swimming at Scotstoun Leisure Centre using MACS group Kidz Card.
Scotstoun Parish Church- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (3pm to 5pm)
Being at the church hall allows the infant children to socialise with their peer groups and plan with staff at the appropriate age and stage of development. The younger children take part on a full range of holistic activities and workshops meeting their needs preparing them with learning experiences, skills and knowledge for the future ahead. The children have a variety of activities daily whilst at the Church such as arts and crafts, physical, baking activities and responsive play. The younger children take part in seasonal forest workshops and outdoor play exploring and building outdoor skills and knowledge from animals to nature. The children take part in a range of workshops to update their knowledge from respecting others to safety and importantly guidance in keeping you and your body safe (PANTS from NSPCC).
For both age groups of children who attend the old gym and the church the children and staff will collate activities and workshops through floor books which we will encourage all stakeholders to comment and evaluate. The floor books consist of pictures and resources through the month to inform all of the activities the children have took part. The staff and children furthermore complete activity evaluation forms for various activities which are then evaluated and next steps put in place to add to further planning to ensure there is a progressive learning environment lead by the stakeholders.
